Fall 2008 concert of Smt. Vijayalakshmy concluded


in San Jose on November 9th evening with a great concert.
A rare treat, in particular an exemplary rendition of purvikalyani alaapana (meenakshi - Muthuswami Dikshitar Kriti), the like of which I haven't heard in a long, long time. Excellent support from Avaneeswaram Vinu and Shertalai Ananthakrishnan too.

All concerts very well received. Avaneeswaram Vinu (violin) and Shertalai Anantakrishnan (mridangam) have
been impressive (this being their first tour of US & Canada) is the feedback. (I would stop here - being the
sponsor :) - and let the regional organizers and audience chime in when they get a chance to).

Opening Notes!

SanKritiLaya was registered on April 9th, 2008 in California (Bay Area) as a non-profit organization under 501(3)(c) tax exempt status (pending). The charter is to promote Indian Classical music and dance forms in North America, by arranging concerts, lecture demonstrations and workshops by leading exponents of these art forms and also to encourage young and upcoming stars of these art forms.
We are finding several dedicated organizations and individuals across North America serving the local community in an exemplary way. Our charter is to work closely with most of these non-profit organizations filling a niche and complementing their work towards promoting Indian classical music and dance forms.
